Need of Herbal pesticides.
Much of the food we eat contains pesticide residues. Nobody
knows what the build-up of poison over time does to our bodies
nor has the effect on babies and children been calculated. What
we do know is that many of these pesticides can cause cancer or
have other adverse effects on animals, humans and the
environment. Developed countries are lowering the maximum
permissible limits of pesticide residue. Once WTO specifications
of food grade quality come in, exports from India will collapse
if such excessive
amounts of pesticide are used. Another major disadvantages
associated with chemical pesticides are development of pesticide
resistance.
Repeated use of the same class of pesticides to control a pest
can cause undesirable changes in the gene pool of a pest leading
to another form of artificial selection, pesticide resistance.
Multiple resistance- resistance to more than one pesticide and
to pesticide in more than one chemical class- is increasing
rapidly. There are over 1,000 insects/ insecticide resistance
combinations, and at least 17 species of insects that are
resistant to all major classes of insecticides.
Herbal pesticides are :-
Eco-Friendly & Non-Toxic
Not Harmful to friendly insects.
No resistance power is developed against these products even
on their repetitive use
For effective control of pests and insects it is essential to
determine the susceptible stage of the pest and insect
population. |
